Liz Turvaville - Ceramic Artist
Curled Tail Pottery and RepTile’s roots began in 1981 when I rode with my Grandpa on his tractor through the woods near Cripple Creek, CO finding rocks and exploring our world. From the beginning in CO. my fascination with material, manipulation, chemistry and creation have been a driving force in my art. Shapes that are aesthetically and functionally pleasing with movement that fits the user an brings an Eastern inspired feeling to my work. I love exploring forms and the process of my art. The ceramics room in high school and college was a playground for me, always challenging and limitless. After a brief foray into commercial construction from 1999- 2002 my love for tile installation grew into a full time business after graduating in 2007 from Memphis College of Art with a BFA in ceramics and sculpture. Through all the years in construction I have found every way to include my love of clay and glaze. As an installer, teacher, tile artist, potter and producer the connections forged through the years have honed my skills and love. In 2017 our young family moved to Black Mountain from Memphis to find our place. Black Mountain is not just a place now, but a home with friends who are family, love that is tangible and a dream fulfilled with a studio by the creek in the mountains….just like Grandpa had.
